St
Edmund's Catholic Primary School
The school was opened in 1873 and owes its existence to the Benedictine Fathers of Downside Abbey and to the Catholic Community of Bungay. The school has an open admissions policy and admits pupils from Catholic and Christian faiths. There are four classes, two in Key Stage I and two in Key Stage 2. Class 1 caters for children in Early Years and Reception. The Headteacher is Mr. James Leese.
As well as offering full access to the National Curriculum to every child, we also believe it is important for children to be encouraged to join extra-curricular activities, and at St. Edmund's we offer clubs such as Basketball, Football, Choir, Guitars, Recorders, Science for Key Stage I pupils, and a separate Science club for Key Stage 2 children. From time to time pupils have also benefited from Art Workshops and Music Workshops. These have been offered by professional Artists and Musicians. All pupils attend Mass regularly whereby they have the opportunity to take part in the readings, singing and prayers. Thus the Catholic Faith is an integrated into the whole life of the school and permeates the whole curriculum, giving the school an ethos of welcome, respect, prayer and praise. At 11 years most pupils transfer to Notre Dame High School, Norwich, and a few pupils transfer to Bungay Middle school. We have excellent links with the Parish, our parents and the community of Bungay. There are many new initiatives which have been created and some projects which are underway, eg all-weather artificial playing surface, a Mother & Toddlers group meet on a Tuesday morning in the hall, and we have a thriving PTA which organise many varied and interesting community events. We value every person in the school; our Mission Statement being:
