Reflections
with Frank Honeywood
Last month
Frank introduced the photographer Thomas Smith whose photographs were
taken off old glass negatives and this month, Frank is keen to show
more of this photographer's work.
The first
photograph shows a pictue of Bungay taken c. 1907-1908 and shows clearly
St Mary's Church on the skyline although the foreground area consists
of part of the Castle Hills. No.11 Castle Orchard was built c. 1911
and therefore is not shown in the picture.

The second photograph shows the Town Centre with the Town Pump and shows
the shop of Normans the Bootmakers at the turn of the century. It seems
that Thomas Smith was very forward thinking as here, he appears to be
experimenting with framing his images with an oval frame. This photograph,
also found on a glass negative is also dated c. 1907-1908.
Finally
we have a fine example of portrait photography from this photograph
dated at c.1900. It is not known who any of the family are but imagine
how long they would have had to sit whilst this photograph was prepared!
A gentleman gallantly holds a large parasol to shield the ladies from
the sun.
