Dave Gladwell's Fishing Tips

NEWS FLASH

A big mirror carp was recently found dead at the tiny central Kidney Pit at Broome Pits which measured thirty-two inches from the fork of it’s tail along to the tip of the nose, and was over twelve inches deep. The age of twenty-seven years was determined by counting the growth rings on one of the large scales in the same way one calculates the age of a tree. This fish is estimated to have grown to weigh between twenty-eight and thirty pounds in weight. A bulk of fat the size of two fists in the stomach is thought likely to be a growth which finally took its toll although the fish looked to have been in good condition and some anglers believe a mink to have been responsible.

With cold miserable winter weather here are a few lines to cast to cheer up:

Nylon Lines” Older members may remember being distracted by these in close conjunction with suspender belts in the early 1950's.

“Rod Bag” Popular type of coarse woman who will carry and handle your tackle.

“Rod rings” Something that’s ten times better than those dreadful engagement and wedding things!

“Bread & Punch” What the baker gives you if you don't pay up or interfere with his wife!

The Annual Outing fishing match result of the Sea Fishing Silly Salters AC was as follows:
1st- C. Odling 12lbs 12oz (a gross weight)
2nd T. Hornback 12lbs 11oz (Ray witnessed it)
3rd C. Onger 12lbs 10oz (wriggled his way into third place)
Last: 1 oz P. Ratt = fished a rag instead of a worm and got hooked in the lug.

R. Sole: Caught nothing but sat squashed up on his box all day keeping the crabs happy!

C. Rap: The Official on the day:
Blanked also but was busy as a lot of his time taken up with the paper work.
