Bungay thanks the veterans .

The Lions Club at Bungay and the Chaucer Club prepared a wonderful party with entertainment for the Veterans and ex-servicemen within the town and the surrounding area as they celebrated anniversary of VE/VJ days.

The room was a mass of red white and blue and Union Jack's were in abundance on all the tables and were waved to accompany the war time songs ably led by singer Debbie Johnson of Beccles. The Town Reeve, Mr Stephen Went assisted with 'Hand Knees and Bumps-a-Daisy much to the delight of the crowd and there was a tremendous display of tap dancing from girls wearing spectaculer outfits depicting the airforce, army and navy. Debbie Johnson entertained agai with another selection of war time favourites before the tea was served. And what a tea !! The tremendous tea was laid on by Wendy and Ray Tooke of The Chaucer Club and Mr Bob Honeywood, chairman of the Bungay Branch of the Royal British Legion presented Mrs Tooke with some flowers as a token of appreciation. The Standards of the Royal British Legion Branch, Group and Women's Section were dipped in an act of homage led by Mr Honeywood.

The MC for the evening was Mr Chriss Spooner of Bungay Lions Club and, after the food the raffle was drawn (everyone having received a free raffle ticket on arrival)

Tommy Thomas entertained with jokes and songs whilst he played the keyboard dressed in uniform, Gus Wilson did mind reading and Jeff Wileyman played his accordian. The evening came to a climax when red, white and blue balloons came down and everyone, including the staff sang Land of Hope and Glory.

The proceedings came to a close with the singing of the National Anthem and everyone present agreed that this truly was an afternoon that will remain with them for a long long time.
