The Diary of The Town Reeve
The month started with the annual Marathon at which I presented the prizes, this is now the 26th year of this event and still goes from strength to strength. Watching the runners finish I really thought I ought to start training but I see very little point in running 26 miles when you can use the car!!! I was also asked to be quizmaster in the competition between Bungay and Beccles WI's - this was very enjoyable especially as Bungay won and home made cakes were available afterwards. Needless to say I returned with a doggy bag, only difference was I have no doggy so I had to eat them! On April 15th I was the guest of the Town Mayor at the annual Civic Evening, this was an extremely pleasant evening as lots of Bungay people attended and various awards were made. On St George's Day I attended the Chair of WDC Charity Ball at the Hotel Victoria, if anyone saw me and the Mayor going together it's OK as her husband knew! This again was a very enjoyable evening, followed on the Sunday by leading the St George's Day Parade through Bungay. This took me back as I recall doing the march as a very young cub and then sea scout. Of course towards the end of the month we heard the sad news of the death of Mrs Trafford. She was Town Reeve twice and served the town in so many ways. I represented the Town Trust at her funeral. On top of all this the quarterly cycle of Town Trust meetings have started so that is keeping me out of mischief. All in all it's been a busy month - my coffee morning raised £256.00 many thanks to all those who supported this - there will be other events later in the year including a tandem sky dive (I have put it in print therefore I have to do it!). I will also be doing a sponsored walk of the Bigod Way in late May and would be delighted if anyone would like to join me - please let me know. In addition the family celebrated my parents Golden Wedding. Mum and Dad are now known as 'one of Bungay's best known couples (see BBJ!) - to me it makes them sound like Posh and Becks! Oh and just to finish it looks as if Norwich may stay in the Premiership - fingers crossed!!!!
