This
charming early 16th century coaching inn is situated opposite St Mary's
Church, St Mary's Street in the centre of the town. The inn with its
distinctive timbers was one of the buildings that survived the great
fire of Bungay in 1666
The decor
reflects the buildings antiquity and in delightfully beamed surroundings
with inglenooks a lunchtime snack or a full meal can be enjoyed. The
Fleece Inn was originally known as The Cross Keys, the name being changed
in 1711.
There
is a comfortable bar area, a non-smoking dining area, a games room with
a pool table and a big screen where all the major sporting events can
be watched amongst the company of friends.
In the
bar area, there is a a large fireplace giving a cosy atmosphere on cold
winter nights and in the summer there is an enclosed patio area where
you can enjoy the sun and the occasional barbecue. As an Adnams pub
you are guaranteed good ale along with a variety of guest ales and in
addition lagers are available on draught.
Mid-day
meals are served 7 days a week from 12noon - 2.00pm with an extensive
menu from snacks to Sunday roasts and there is a varied list of specials
every day.
For that
special anniversary or celebration there is a function room with full
bar service. There are authentic hunting scenes of 19th century murals
painted in the Naive tradition that was favoured by inns during that
period. Their uncovering caused much interest at the Norwich Museum.
The
room will hold between 30 - 40 for catering purposes or about 70 - 80
for a party. Catering can be supplied.
The room
has comfortable new furniture and is available for all social events
from business meetings and lunches to parties and family gatherings
following weddings, christenings or funerals.
